Massachusetts Department Of Children And Families
The primary mission of our agency is to protect children who have been abused or neglected in a family setting. The Department will seek to ensure that each child has a safe, nurturing, permanent home. Additionally the Department will provide a range of preventive services to support and strengthen families with children at risk.
Description:
The Worcester Area Office of the Massachusetts Department Of Children And Families provides services to children at risk and their families. Often children at risk need to be placed with foster families who provide a stable, safe family environment for a child on a short term basis until the child's parents resolve the issues that brought the child into foster care.
History:
DCF [formerly DSS] was founded in 1980. There approximately 13,000 children in DCF foster care. Services are provided to children and families in an effort to provide children with stable living situations. There are six regional offices, The Worcester Area Office employs over 100 social workers.
