Christopher House of Worcester

Our goal is to offer opportunities of self-enrichment, personal satisfaction, enjoyment, and life long learning to the community members who volunteer their valuable time.

Description:
CHRISTOPHER HOUSE is a private not-for-profit elder care center. We pride ourselves on providing a comprehensive continuum of care for those needing Short Term Rehabilitation, Long Term, or Respite Care. We provide: General Medical and 24-hour Skilled Nursing Care, Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy, as well as Pulmonary Rehabilitation-IV Therapy and Therapeutic Activities.

CHRISTOPHER HEIGHTS is a residential community offering private apartments to seniors in a beautiful home-like setting. This community is designed to help maintain the independence of seniors, by offering assistance with activities of daily living such as personal grooming, meal preparation, housekeeping, and laundry.

The Christopher House invites you to join our Volunteer Team! We offer volunteer opportunities for adults, teens, or the whole family in a wide variety of areas. Assignments are available for volunteers interested in resident interaction and for those of you who prefer to remain more behind the scenes. We offer complete flexibility for your time, schedule, and choice of assignment. Bring your time, talent, and enthusiasm and see what makes this program so special to all who join.

History:
Meeting the ever-changing needs of our community has long been at the forefront of our mission. As a key component of Worcester's efforts to provide for its indigent residents, the original home-which opened on Front Street in 1772 as a work house-soon became a place where the city's sick and elderly could receive exceptional care in an atmosphere of dignity and compassion. Over the years, the facility was situated on a number of sites throughout the city before settling into its Belmont Street location in 1956. Along the way, it underwent several transformations while operating under the city's guidance, from the Isolation Hospital for patients with contagious diseases, the the Brookside Farm for the handicapped, Belmont Home, and finally to the privately owned Christopher House.
