The Literacy Project
The Literacy Project's mission is to build our community and strengthen our democracy through adult basic education, advocacy and support.
Description:
The Literacy Project is a place for people who didn't finish high school to have a second chance at education. We offer free classes in reading, writing, math, science, and GED preparation. Technology and computer skills are integrated into all of our classes. We also offer counseling, education and support to help students take steps beyond the GED and into college or careers. We operate learning centers in Ware, Warren, Orange, Greenfield, Northampton, and Amherst, serving approximately 600 students each year.
History:
The Literacy Project is a non-profit agency which has been educating adults in the Franklin and Hampshire County region of western Massachusetts since 1984. Rooted in the tradition of progressive popular education, The Literacy Project has won national recognition for our work linking literacy and basic education with community development.
