Voices Against Violence
Voices Against Violence has two primary goals. The first goal is to empower sexual assault and domestic violence survivors to help themselves and their children. We work with survivors to foster safety, stable home environments, independence, and personal economic empowerment. The second goal is to work toward the elimination of violence against women, men and children on a societal level through community education.
Description:
Voices is a nonprofit service agency providing free and confidential support to victims and survivors (primary and secondary) of sexual assault and domestic violence. Services include a 24-hour hotline, individual and group counseling, medical and legal advocacy, financial assistance, emergency shelter and safe home, and community education and technical assistance.
History:
Voices Against Violence was established in 1977 under the name of Women's Protective Services (WPS). In 1989 WPS became a program of SMOC, whose philosophy of personal empowerment and commitment to social change was an ideal match.
