Tutor and assist in ESL (English as a Second Language) classes

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on March 10, 2009

We use tutors before and after classes for conversation, help with vocabulary, and sometimes with grammar. Often, our students just want to talk, and practice their English skills. No special involved training is required for our volunteer positions. What is most important is a desire to help others speak English.

During class, assistants may help by correcting homework, but mostly interact with students as part of the class, under the teacher's direction.

Our need for volunteers is somewhat flexible. Students may come in before class for one-to-one tutoring. Otherwise, our class schedule is Mon & Thurs 6-8 p.m., Tues & Fri 6-8 p.m., and Sat & Sun 2 to 4 p.m.

There is a fairly short orientation to familiarize volunteers with our approach. No special training in education is needed.
