Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter
SERVICES BARCS PROVIDES TO THE COMMUNITY • Providing care and finding homes for impounded, stray, abused, and surrendered animals. • Educating the public about responsible animal ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering. • Tracking lost and found animals and providing a central location for city residents to search for lost animals. • Issuing city animal licenses. • Offering low-cost rabies clinics. Microchipping and pet licensing are offered at the clinics.

Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) is a non-profit organization founded in 2005. Since 2005 we have had a contract from Baltimore City to manage the city animal shelter. BARCS handles more than 11,000 cats and dogs and 500 other animals (other domestic animals, farm animals, exotics, and wildlife) a year. We are the largest animal shelter in the Baltimore area. We house up to 500 animals at a time. Our long-term goal is to end the euthanasia of healthy, treatable animals.
History:
Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) is a non-profit organization founded in 2005. Since 2005 we have had a contract from Baltimore City to manage the city animal shelter. Since BARCS took over administration of the shelter our adoptions are up 1,285% and we have reduced the shelter euthanasia rate by 50%. Our long-term goal is to end the euthanasia of healthy, treatable animals.
