InterPLAYcompany Band

The interPLAYcompany Band's mission is to enable adults with intellectual and other disabilities, who are able to learn music and perform in concerts with professional musicians, to gain a sense of personal dignity while creating new perspectives in the wider community.

Description:
Our objectives are to enable adult musicians, our band members, to learn to play symphonic percussion and tonal instruments in a variety of professional techniques, to follow a conductor, to play all musical genres from Back to Basie, and to learn certain ethnic drumming techniques. They master each note of an increasing number of musical works by means of repetition and intense, focused listening.

History:
The organization has been serving adults with cognitive disabilities in the Washington, DC area since 1991 in a variety of locations. In January 2005, interPLAY was transformed and came to Strathmore as an education partner in the newly completed facility.
