Voices for Children of Carroll County advocates for safe and permanent homes for children in the county who are under the protection of the courts, and have been removed from their families due to abuse, neglect and abandonment
Description:
Through trained volunteers, Voices for Children of Carroll County advocates for the abused and neglect children in the county, when they appear in court. Volunteers must complete an extensive background check (including reference checks), complete 30 + hours of training as well as participate in 2 interviews. They are then sworn in by the courts and assigned a child. Volunteers find out everything they can about the child and then when the child returns to court provides the judge, master with a full written report with recommendations.
History:
This program began in 2001. We are a small office with 2 part time staff (one working 20 hours and the other working 10 hours. We receive limited funding and therefore are always in financial difficulties in trying to meet our goal. We moved this year to the non-profit building in Carroll County
