Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Our research team is developing a speech-based application that helps users who are experiencing difficulties using keyboard and mouse to interact with computers. We are recruiting participants for a six month field study to evaluate the speech application. Participants will be provided a computer with all necessary software for a period of six months. Participants can use the speech application for various tasks whenever they like. Participants are expected to use speech to compose a one page diary every week. A monthly interview either face to face or by phone will be conducted to collect feedback on the software.

The requirements for participants are:

Participant need to be native English speaker.
Participant should have no documented cognitive, perceptual, speech impairments; no uncorrected visual impairments.
Participant needs to have physical problems in hands or arms. The problems should be significant, causing the participant to be quite slow in typing. Sample impairments: High level spinal cord injury, stroke-related movement difficulties, or severe carpal tunnel syndrome, tremors, or arthritis.
