In recognition of the bond between humans and animals, the Tri-County Humane Society exists to practice and promote humane principles, compassionate care, and the prevention of cruelty to animals.

Description:
This society serves the community, both animals and people, primarily by:

• providing quality care and adoption services for animals in need,
• offering educational programs on animal behavior and welfare, and
• handling questions and complaints regarding animal care and behavior, including alleged cruelty, and neglect cases.
  
  



History:
Prior to 1974, several concerned citizens took unwanted pets into their homes, but could not keep up with the need. The Tri-County Humane Society incorporated on December 11, 1974 as a non-profit organization to care for homeless pets and to promote the humane care and treatment of animals. In 1975, community members and businesses rallied to provide donated materials and labor to remodel a vacant gas station and turn it into an animal shelter. On May 15, 1989 the Society moved into a new custom-designed animal shelter on 8th St. N.E. in St. Cloud. In 1999, after years of planning and saving, the Society began work on an addition that provided a surgery suite for spaying and neutering shelter animals, much needed storage and office space, and expanded housing areas for small animals, stray cats, and sick animals in isolation.
