Heavy hearts abound in society today. Unfortunately, our world is moving so fast that the misfortune of those around us is often overlooked. While the rest of the community hustles about and takes God's gifts for granted, there are people in pain, families in disarray, and an entire segment of the population crying out for help.
For over a century, Catholic Charities has answered the cries of people in need by heeding God's call for us to serve our brothers and sisters. We have lightened the burden of thousands of people by bringing the spirit of Christ to the communities we serve.
Turning fear and despair into hope and joy, Catholic Charities has become a saving grace for the poor and underserved in our area. With over 600 employees, 2,000 volunteers, and 9,000 donors, Catholic Charities touches the lives of more than 40,000 people each year across and beyond the Diocese of St. Cloud
History:
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud is a non-profit, human service agency with administrative
offices in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
The organization has served the children, individuals, and families in 16 counties of Central Minnesota
since the late 1800s when Benedictine Sisters began caring for orphans in St. Joseph, Minnesota.
From that humble origin, services were added to address emerging community needs, beginning in
1875 with the St. Cloud Children's Home, with the inception in 1915 of the Women's Guild to do
"educational, charitable, and social work" in the city and Diocese, and the offering of formal
counseling services in 1956.
Catholic Charities was incorporated as a nonprofit agency in 1955 and continues to provide services
supporting a continuum of care for the people of Central Minnesota.
