Greater St. Cloud Area Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)
Mission: To engage men and women age 55 and better in meaningful volunteer service that strengthens the well-being of both self and community. Vision: To be a bridge between those who need and those who give.
Description:
RSVP is the largest volunteer program for men and women age 55 and better in the United States. Locally, RSVP offers a variety of one-time and on-going volunteer opportunities within 160 local organizations. RSVP assists in finding a volunteer match that meets the needs of both the individual and the community. Volunteers create their own flexible schedule and level of commitment and can utilize optional mileage reimbursement through RSVP.
History:
RSVP originated in 1965 out of the Older Americans Act. In 1973, the Greater St. Cloud Area RSVP began when the City of St. Cloud wrote and received a grant from ACTION, the National Volunteer Agency. In 1978, the Greater St. Cloud Area RSVP expanded to serve Sherburne County.
