Arc Midstate

Arc Midstate provides supports and advocates to secure and enhance opportunities for people with developmental disabilities such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Fragile X, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and more and their families to choose how they live, learn, work, play in their communities.

Description:
Programs of Arc Midstate include, Family and Caregiver support such as parent support groups including Autism, Down Syndrome, and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Also Pilot Parents
(volunteer mentors for parents of children with any special need), Sibsday (special events for brothers and sisters of children with special needs), Opening Doors a program helping
families who have children with special needs with child care needs.

Arc Midstate is involved in education and outreach activities including a variety of informational workshops and conferences for families and caregivers and prevention and awareness of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. We are partnering with Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome on a variety of projects.

Arc Midstate advocates on behalf of people with developmental disabilities and their families including
individual assistance and systems advocacy. Arc Midstate works to help improve self-sufficiency for
people with developmental disabilities and their families.

History:
Arc Midstate has roots in our community since 1956
when parents and others with concerns for the well being and rights of people with developmental disabilities began to informally meet. The Arc Midstate Chapter was officially established in 1969.
As a result of the continous efforts of Arc, services have improved dramatically; however there is an ongoing need to continue efforts to maintain services and move forward for continued improvement and access to services.
