Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota
Mission: To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
Description:
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota is a youth guidance organization dedicated to helping youth of all backgrounds reach their full potential and develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and caring adults. To satisfy the mission, our goals are to provide youth with: 1) a safe place to learn and grow; 2) ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals; 3) life-enhancing programs; 4) character development experiences; 5) hope and opportunity. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota's Youth Development Strategy: Boys & Girls Club programs promote the development of young people by instilling a sense of competence, a sense of usefulness, a sense of belonging and a sense of power or influence. When this strategy is fully implemented, self-esteem is enhanced and an environment is created which helps boys and girls achieve their full potential.
History:
In 1974, a group of concerned citizens determined that young boys on the Eastside of St. Cloud were in need of a recreational program because they had little access to services, due to geographic isolation. They started the St. Cloud Boys Club. Within weeks of opening the Club began serving girls as well as boys. This Club has grown into the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota, serving more than 1,300 youth per day at 15 sites.
