Central MN Adult Basic Education helps adults become fully participating, self-sufficient members of our society.
Description:
Central MN ABE goals for the volunteer program are to tutor adults in basic reading and writing, conversational English, or U.S. history and government for citizenship; build bridges to help learners apply what they are learning to meet needs in their everyday lives; and promote a positive image of Adult Basic education. ABE also offers classes in thirteen participating school districts and two correctional facilities for high school diploma completion, GED study/testing, brush-up skills, family literacy, and English language learning.
History:
Central MN ABE was established in the mid-1970s and consists of thirteen school districts and two governmental entities. Sauk Rapids and St. Cloud offer classes in the mornings, afternoons and evenings; other sites offer classes late afternoons and evenings. Classes include high school diploma completion; GED study and examination; English as a second language (ESL); family literacy; general brush up skills in basic reading, writing, and math; U.S. citizenship; and the volunteer program that offers tutor-run classes, as well as private one-to-one tutoring in basic skills, ESL and U.S. citizenship study.
