St. Cloud Parks Department
The St. Cloud Park Department will maintain and preserve the city's Public Parks, Gardens, and Trails System to meet the needs of our residents within the resources available.
Description:
The St. Cloud Park Department is responsible for management and maintenance of the City owned public parks and open spaces, trees on street boulevards & public lands, and our public gardens. We have 19 full-time and 40 plus seasonal staff and many seasonal volunteers to help keep our parks clean, take care of our flower gardens, care for and plant trees, and many other special projects within our park system. As the seasons change, we provide for recreational uses of the park systems. Both active and passive recreational opportunities are provided by the City and in collaboration with many user groups.
History:
The City's first park was established in 1855 (Barden Park). Barden Park was first named Central Park after Central Park In New York City, but was changed to Barden Park in honor of Charles Barden. Charles Barden was St. Cloud's first Park Director and was instrumental in providing care and development of our young park system. The Park System has grown considerable so in 2009 there are nearly 95 parcels of parkland that equal over 1400 acres. This offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities for our citizens.
