Volunteer Training: Core Body of Knowledge

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on July 15, 2009

This is a complete training on all aspects of the Volunteer opportunities available with the Central Minnesota Council on Aging's Senior LinkAge Line. Normally held over a period of three (3) days, six (6) hours each day for a total of 18 hours of training covering the services we oversee including: Medicare, Health Insurance options; caregiver services; Minnesota Health Care Programs; Fraud & Abuse, etc.

This training is held within the 14 County service area, usually one in St. Cloud, one in Mora and one in either Staples or Brainerd area per year.

After completing the training, volunteers can choose which areas they want to volunteer in. Example: assisting only with Minnesota Health Care Program applications or else public speaking at a Fraud Event.

Possible volunteers may also talk with the Coordinator on other options for training. Example: if an interested volunteer only wants to conduct the Internet/Senior Surf Beginning Computer classes? They can work with the Coordinator to be trained specifically on that topic and not have to take the entire 18-hour training. There is some flexibility in order to meet the needs of our volunteers.

Volunteer committment varies per month, with more volunteer activity common during Medicare Part D open enrollment, November 15-December 31st each year. An Update/Information Training is offered once each quarter in the various locations as well.

A background check is completed, and anyone that partakes in the Core Body Training can not have an active health insurance license.
