Survivors of domestic abuse need support after they move out of Anna Marie's shelter. Starting over can be hard, especially without the help of someone who cares. By volunteering as an After-Care Advocate, women can be there for survivors of domestic abuse seeking a fresh start at healthy, nonviolent lives. By meeting with women once a week, whenever you both are available, you will help women find empowerment and self-sufficiency, and work to end the cycle of domestic abuse. Age 21 and over Non-violent lifestyle No chemical dependency issues 2-3 years experience working with domestic abuse, mental health, chemical dependency, homelessness, social services, and/or community resources Patience and excellent listening skills Good boundaries and awareness of the signs of dependency Bilingual status is a plus Parental status is a plus Clean driving record, current driver's license and car insurance Attend Agency Orientation and program training sessions Able to honor a 6-month commitment to a client Reliable transportation Ability to meet with former resident for one hour a week, maintain records of meetings, and meet with program coordinator once every two weeks
