Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on November 3, 2009 |
Friendship Ventures is a non-profit organization that facilitates programs for people with disabilities. We run a Summer Camp, Winter Camp and a year-round weekend Respite program for children and adults with disabilities so that they may enjoy traditional camp activities that have been modified to meet their individual needs. We are looking for volunteers to fill our Winter and Summer Camp Programs. Volunteers generally come for a week at a time - staying Sat-Fri. During this time, food and lodging are provided for free, and training is provided when you arrive. You need not have experience with people with disabilities, just a willingness to learn, and the kindness to help out. There are three programs you can apply for: We are looking for Youth Volunteers ages 14-17 to volunteer as an Leaders-In-Training (LITs) for a week! Not only do these volunteers get to work directly with our camper population, but they also get to spend half of their week learning new leadership skills. Learn about disabilities, test your skills on some of our challenge courses, and bond with others when you participate in our Youth Leadership Program! We are looking for adult volunteers 18+ to come volunteer for a week as Cabin Assistants (CAs). Our CAs act as help to our professional staff. They provide the entertainment and fun side of camp - helping campers with arts and crafts activities, recreation, swimming and so much more. We are looking for youth groups, mission groups, student organizations. teams or clubs that would like to spend a week at camp, helping others. Groups are welcome to participate in our Youth Leadership Program, or spend their entire time volunteering. Food and lodging is free during your stay, training provided upon arrival. A great, low cost, way to get involved in your local community. You can come by yourself, with a couple of friends or family, or with a group (like your school or church). Complete your Service Learning Requirements, gain experience in the Human Services field, gain a valuable reference, or just come out to make a difference. Whatever type of volunteering you're looking for, we can find something that fits both of our needs. Weekend opportunities also available.
Volunteers must be at least 14, no maximum age. Training provided on site. Food and lodging provided.
