Help immigrants and refugees to become fully active members of the community by becoming a citizenship tutor. Citizenship applicants must have a fairly good command of the English language, answer questions about U.S. history and civics (oral), in addition to being able to demonstrate satisfactory literacy skills (written dictation). As a citizenship tutor, your role is to help applicants prepare for the examination by preparing lessons from the citizenship textbook and other available resources in addition to providing English as a second language support. The citizenship class will be held one evening a week, and will commence as soon as possible. The commitment is definitely worth the feeling of reward tutors experience when their students pass the test. Citizenship tutors enhance lives!
Potential tutors must complete the application process through Central MN Adult Basic Education. Training is convenient (mostly independent study) and only necessary in the absence of a current MN teaching license or literacy certification. Set up an appointment to meet with the Volunteer Tutor Coordinator (Kelly Aguilar) to learn more about the program and begin the application process.
