Volunteer Opportunity Details:

2-1-1 is a 24 hour, free and confidential information and referral service The database is for the entire state of Minnesota and part of Wisconsin.
Responsibilities:
. Assist callers by using active listening, identifying needs, Discussing options and then referring to appropriate services.
. Update the database to ensure accurate information is being provided
. Communicate with new and existing health and human service agencies to obtain current information on their services (mailings, over the phone, e-mails, meetings)
. May do some outreach in the 8 counties we serve
. Orientation and training provided

Qualifications:
. Must be 18 years of age or older
. Prefer a background in social work, psychology, sociology. or human service field
. Excellent oral and written communication skills
. Work effectively as a member of a team
. Have the ability to recognize crisis situations, work with diverse populations, and be sensitive to the needs of callers
. Able to maintain caller confidentiality
. Complete a background check

United Way of Central Minnesota is located in the 2700 Building. One block off Division Street to the north. You can turn off Divison Street at 27th Avenure, and the bulding is at the end of the block. Another option would be to turn on 25th Avenue and take a left on to 1st Street. The 2700 building is one block down on the left. The United Way of Central Minnsota is on the third floor of the building.   Nearest Bus Stop: Byerly's or Mid Town Square, 5 minute walk
