Central Minnesota Audio Newspapers is a radio program that is broadcast from KVSC radio station on St. Cloud State University campus on a daily basis. It brings local news to people who are blind, visually or physically impaired. Volunteers are needed to read local daily and weekly newspapers over a closed-circuit radio reading service. Volunteers need to commit to a specific time every two to three weeks for approximately two and a half hours. Thirty minutes of that time is spent in preparation for the broadcast. The project will accept a short-term commitment; however, dependability is a must. The times available are very flexible. To participate, individuals need to take an oral reading test consisting of approximately 50 vocabulary words and five to six stories from the newspaper. For those who pass the test, there will be a training session prior to the broadcast. For more information on this volunteer opportunity, call Art Grachek at (320) 253-4300.
