Peer volunteers (or those who have an interest in chemical dependency or mental/health) offer compassion, understanding and support to other older adults who are suffering from chemical dependency. Volunteers provide a listening ear by being a mentor, assisting with log book assignments for individuals in treatment, and providing transportation to support meetings. Another program that SHH volunteers are involved in is making greeting cards. Volunteers come together 1 time/month and make new cards out of used cards. This has become a fundraiser for SHH. Older adults: senior citizen, aging, elderly, retired, seniors
If chemically dependent, volunteers must be free from mood-altering chemicals. Significant others are encouraged to volunteer as well. Free training is provided, with six-10 hours annual training and every other month shorter educational trainings. The Fall training is a mandatory training required by the hospital. Cardmakers just need to have an interest in crafts. A minimum of 20 hours per year is required. This opportunity is sponsored by: Senior Helping Hands, Recovery Plus
We need volunteers who are free at these times
