Peer Volunteer Counselors are older adults who have an interest in the issues affecting the mental well being of other older adults. Volunteers provide emotional support in the form of active listening and goal setting. Peer Counselors help clients deal with concerns associated with aging such as loneliness, loss, relocation, chronic pain and change. Successfully complete a comprehensive Peer Volunteer Counselor Training. The Elder Network Case Manager will match a client with the volunteer. The Case Manager is available in the Melrose/Long Prairie/Sauk Centre area as well. The volunteer meets with the client one time per week and attends monthly consultation meetings at the St. Cloud Hospital or in Western Stearns County area.
