Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Volunteers are responsible for walking their assigned trail two times a month during spring, summer, and fall to pick up garbage, remove branches crossing the trail, level gopher mounds, fill gopher holes,and check signs for needed repair. Volunteers also check the trailhead parking areas for litter and vandalism. After each trail visit, the volunteer reports to refuge staff the status of the trail, the need for large tree removal, and any unusual situations. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to the trail site. The refuge will provide trash bags and make arrangements for trash disposal. Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately for outdoor work. Ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision. Good physical condition. Each adopted trail should be visited a minimum of two times a month during spring, summer, and fall. Volunteers make a one year commitment. From St. Cloud, MN, take Hwy. 23 east. About four miles out of town take Hwy 95 east. Follow Hwy 95 for 14 miles to Mille Lacs County Road 7 and a brown refuge sign. Take a right on Co. Rd 7 going south 4 miles to the entrance to the refuge where an information kiosk will provide further directions. |
