The volunteer will usually tutor an adult learner one-to-one in a non-classroom setting , such as a library or a school. There are some opportunities tutor a group. Subject areas may include: listening, speaking, reading and writing in English; discussion of American life and customs; history and government for U.S. citizenship. Attend a two-hour orientation, complete the English as a Second Language Training (12 hours) or Basic Reading Tutor Training (12 hours);provide your own transportation; provide three written references, and attend in-services.
