The Greater St. Cloud Area Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Stearns County Emergency Management and Benton County Emergency Management are forming Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT). CERT members will be trained to assist their neighbors and communities in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. Training includes disaster preparedness, fire suppression, medical operations (including triage and wound care), search and rescue, team psychology, terrorism awareness and a disaster simulation. CERT members receive 20 hours of training in eight 2-1/2 hour sessions. The training is free of charge. In 2009, trainings will be held in February/March and again in the fall. Please contact our office to enroll. CERT is sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to improve homeland security in local communities.
CERT volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, a resident of Stearns or Benton County and in good physical condition. Oral an written English language proficiency is required.
