Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Accountability Minnesota provides tax preparation services for low-income families in our community. They are seeking volunteers to help at various St. Cloud area site locations during the upcoming tax season.

Volunteers are needed at the tax site locations to assist as individual tax preparers. Tax preparers are responsible for completing individual tax returns for low-income individuals and families. Provide a welcoming environment for both customers and fellow volunteers.

Tax preparers are required to attend an 8-hour training session and complete a test as required by the IRS in order to be a certified tax preparer prior to volunteering. There is one training session offered from 8 am – 5 pm on Saturday, January 23. Various training dates are also available in St. Paul in December and January. If you have been a tax preparer in previous years, you can take the test online at irs.gov Free Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits are available.

Volunteers are needed for 4 hour shifts available on Tuesdays from 8 am to 4:30 pm, Wednesdays for 4 pm to 8 pm, Thursdays from 4:30 pm to 8 pm and Saturdays from 8:30 am to 12 pm. The tax service runs from early February to mid April. St. Cloud area locations include Salvation Army, Technical College and Catholic Charities. Volunteers can commit to the entire season or help with a number of shifts.
