Volunteer Opportunity Details:

COMMUNITY NEED SERVED BY THIS PROJECT: La Cruz is a housing community managed by Catholic Charities. Located on the south side of St. Cloud, near St. Cloud State University, this 104-unit complex offers affordable renting for people with low incomes. The residents of La Cruz come from many diverse ethnic backgrounds and include many families with young children. Many residents are non-English speaking immigrants from Somalia.

VOLUNTEER PROJECT: A community liaison assists the residents in providing information, referrals services, resources, awareness and opportunities within the St. Cloud area. A translator is needed to enhance the liaison's ability to communicate with residents, to learn of their needs and to relay information regarding resources that can be used by residents.

TIME COMMITMENT: We have flexibility in scheduling the hours that a volunteer would be needed. We are looking for a set time that will work with both the volunteer and La Cruz (for example every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 - 2:30.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Fluency in both English and Somali
• Good oral communication skills
