Service to the Armed Forces, SAF, is the official emergency communications link between Military Personnel around the world and their families. The American Red Cross, through Congressional Charter is appointed to provide this service. Our chapter provides this service with the help of dedicated volunteers. SAF volunteers help families contact servicemembers in the event of a death, serious illness, or other emergency. The SAF volunteers of the Central Minnesota Red Cross serve citizens of 17 counties (Benton, Big Stone, Chippewa, Kanabec, Kandiyohi, Lac Qui Parle, Meeker, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Pope, Sherburne, Stearns, Stevens, Swift, Todd, and Wright) and are available 24 hours a day to help get families in touch with servicemembers quickly. SAF volunteers go on-call during periods when the Red Cross office is not open. When a call is received, the volunteer will verify the information or message and send the message to the appropriate military authority or family member. All of this is done by telephone and the Internet. SAF calls can be done from home or anywhere with phone or Internet.
Military background is NOT required. Cases are entered using an online database so some computer skills helpful. This opportunity is sponsored by: American Red Cross - MN - St. Cloud
