The Wisconsin Council of the Blind & Visually Impaired promotes the dignity and independence of people in Wisconsin who are blind or visually impaired by providing programs and services, advocating legislation, and educating the general public. While our headquarters are located in Madison, we serve people throughout the state with our resources.
Description:
We provide powerful tools for independence and quality of life. We do this through: low vision evaluations and therapy;computer and other technology training and consulting; rehabilitation/living skills lessons; seminars and education; free white canes distributed annually to blind and visually impaired WI residents; our Sharper Vision store that contains more than 1,000 tools and devices for purchase; scholarships and loans.
History:
The Wisconsin Council of the Blind & Visually Impaired was incorporated in 1952. It is directed by 19 women and men who are themselves blind or visually impaired.
