Madison Family Literacy
We provide integrated and comprehensive educational services to parents of limited schooling and income and their young children. Volunteers are essential to provide optimal opportunities for language development with children 2 months to 5 years through play and shared reading.
Description:
Madison Family Literacy in collaboration with Madison Metro Schools, MATC and Northport Community Learning Centers serves about 30 low literacy families each year with adult instruction, parenting instruction and support, and early childhood classes.Volunteers interact directly with participant children or adults to promote language.
History:
From 1999 -2008 Madison Even Start Family Literacy received federal funding. This year as no federal funds were allocated in Congress we continue services with support from Madison Metropolitan School District, Northport Apartments, donations, and proceeds from a Scrabble Tournament held at Hilldale. Volunteers are essential to continue high quality programming.
