Madison Trust For Historic Preservation
The Madison Trust for Historic Preservation is a nonprofit organization established in 1974 to help preserve the architectural and historical heritage of the greater Madison area through advocacy and education.
Description:
The Trust has a working all-volunteer board of 12 people whom, while not all in the architecture field, have a common interest in the historic built environment. The Trust has over 200 active members. The Trust regularly offers historic walking tours, lectures and other programs, and works with the city and state to preserve historic buildings. Active volunteer committees include:
- Programs and Tours (create and manage events such as the annual Preservation Awards, the Historic Pub Crawl)
- Landmarks (research and write local landmark nominations)
- Relight the Marquee (an effort to restore the historic Orpheum marquee)
- Membership (plan member drives and parties)
History:
Established in 1974, all volunteer ever since, currently working toward a grant to fund an executive director.
