Agency Details:
Project Linus Madison Chapter
First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.
Description:
We would like you to consider becoming a “blanketeer” by making new blankets, quilts and afghans for donation to the Madison Chapter of Project Linus. Our goal is raising awareness and growing our volunteer base to ultimately increase our monthly blanket donations, as each month we’re asked to provide more and more blankets. Presently our “blanketeers” hand-make from new fabric and yarn over 400 blankets, quilts and afghans monthly. Project Linus-Madison then distributes the blankets, quilts and afghans to area hospitals and organizations in need.
History:
Since October 1998, the Madison Chapter has given away more than 26,000 blankets to area children, most of them hospitalized, in the Madison/Dane County area. In 2006 we donated approximately 3,500 blankets to area children. In 2007, our totals reached 4,338 blankets to children in need.
