Falk Elementary Tutoring Program

AACE (After School Academic Center for Excellence) is sponsored by MSCR (Madison School & Community Recreation) and Safe Haven After School program. Our mission is to provide a safe and fun environment for Falk Elementary after school care students to flourish in. We also have a math and literacy tutoring program. We are recruiting volunteer tutors who are interested in working with children in an academic or recreation setting. Volunteers are needed to help out with general activities during our after school care program and are more specifically encouraged to help with literacy or math. The children are in grades K-5.

Description:
Our general after school care program is a fun, learning environment for Falk students. The program beings on the first day of school which is September 2nd, 2009. The program specifics are listed below:
Mondays: 1:00-5:45 P.M.
Tuesdays- Fridays: 2:30-5:45 P.M.
(No tutoring on Fridays)
We would prefer for volunteers to commit to at least one shift a week. The number of hours during each shift are up to the volunteer and supervisor to discuss. However, we welcome all volunteers for any duration of time they are available.

We strongly encourage volunteers to participate in our literacy or math tutoring program. Our Tutoring program begins October 5th, 2009 and ends December 11th, 2009. It restarts on January 25th, 2010 and ends May 7th, 2010. We are ALWAYS accepting volunteers and welcome you to join our program at anytime for any duration of time. The literacy tutoring helps the children obtain grade level reading, writing, and/or math proficiency levels. The tutoring time will consist of one on one learning through reading, writing, and comprehension activities. Various literacy activities will be planned ahead of time, and the tutor will be responsible for their implementation. Math tutors will help students develop and refine their math skills. Tutoring times are:
Mondays: 2:45-4:00
Tuesday-Thursday: 3:15-4:30
(No tutoring on Friday)
UW-Madison students may receive free cab rides from campus to and from Falk Elementary.

Thank you in your interest.
