Schumacher Farm Park
Our mission is to offer a representation of Dane County's rural heritage through preservation, restoration and education.
Description:
Schumacher Farm is a nature conservancy and living history farm museum representing the 1920s-30s. All activities represent this time period, including heirloom gardening, restoration of farm machinery, workshops, out-building acquisitions, prairie restoration, special public events, oral histories, and collection and restoration of period artifacts. All activities are performed by volunteers under the leadership of two part-time staff persons. The park is located five miles north of Madison on the eastern edge of Waunakee.
History:
Schumacher Farm was donated to Dane County Parks in 1979 as a nature conservancy and historic site. The Friends of Schumacher Farm was established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 1986, and a trust fund was left by the donor to support activities of the Friends. Beginning in 1995, the Friends hired staff to provide continuity of administrative functions and coordination of volunteers.
