History: In 1971, a group of community volunteers came together to address the growing runaway and homeless youth population in Madison, Wisconsin. A year later, they formed Briarpatch, Incorporated. Beginning with the Runaway & Homeless Youth Program, the agency expanded to offer a Youth Groups Program and a Street Outreach Program. The agency also Became a participant in the Children of Violent Homes Project.
In 1978, Community Adolescent Programs became incorporated to address the needs of court-involved youth. Beginning with the Intensive supervision Program, the agency expanded to include a Youth Restitution Program, a Youth Peer Court, a Youth Job Center, and the Madison Street Team.
