Transition Education Program
The mission of the Transition Education Program (TEP), is to provide homeless children and youth equitable access to educational opportunities afforded "housed" children.
Description:
TEP is a partnership between Madison Metropolitan School District, Madison School Community Recreation, Salvation Army, Dane County, YWCA, Domestic Abuse Intervention Service and other community organizations. The program serves K-12th graders and is a district wide program. Services include direct instruction, advocacy, professional development, supplies, community education about homelessness and mobility, academic screening, and small group assistance.
History:
The TEP was initiated in March 1989 at Emerson Elementary. The program is a district wide program serving Kindergarten through high school on a daily basis throughout the entire Madison District. As the number of homeless students has continued to increase the support of the TEP program has changed and modified to meet these needs.
