Madison Area Weed Warriors
Our primary mission/vision is to get neighborhoods and community members to adopt their public green spaces, parks, bike paths, etc. for help in doing ecological preservation in these areas. We want to promote awareness of the threat that exotic invasive species pose to biodiversity in our region, and on our planet.
Description:
Our main focus at present is the removal of exotic, invasive plant species that are threatening our biodiversity of native flora, starting with garlic mustard. We are working in various conservation parks around Madison every Saturday afternoon in April and May of 2010. Other volunteer work days can be set up for more areas if there is interest to do so. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about native and introduced plants in our bio-region.
History:
We are into our 10th year of doing garlic mustard removal in several of our Madison conservation parks and other areas. We have also provided education to home owners and renters in some neighborhoods if they have garlic mustard on their property on how to get rid of it, and why it is important to do so. We volunteer with permission from the city parks department. You can find this years work party dates and locations on our web site below. Thanks for stopping by.
