Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on May 8, 2009 |
The greeter is one of our most important volunteer positions available; and ideal position for someone who wants to help with removal of alien invasive plants, but is not physically able to do so. This position involves sitting at the greeters' table, and tending to the late coming volunteers. You would have them sign in on the volunteer roster, and direct them to where we are pulling Garlic Mustard, and other invaders. A map to where we are working will be provided for each separate work party as we meet at different locations every Saturday through the end of May from noon-3 pm. You may view the dates, times and locations of each work party on my page at the web site address below. You would also be showing late comers what the Garlic Mustard plant looks like, and inviting them to have copies of wild cards that have pictures of the plants we watch for, and sharing the treats, gloves and bags we provide. Please bring your own drinking water, or beverage. The rest of the positions involve pulling up and bagging Garlic Mustard, and a few other alien invasive plants. On site training provided. Trash bags, vinyl gloves, and snacks are provided. Please bring your own drinking water.
Training will be provided on site. A mobile phone will be needed to have contact with project leader who is out with the volunteers if any questions arise. It helps if you like being outside, and interacting with people, and don't mind sitting, or staying put for 3 hours. This is a nice opportunity to do bird/wildlife watching, enjoy the outdoors, or perhaps catch up on some reading, and to make sure we don't miss out on any volunteer help that shows up after we have gone to the woods to work.
