Volunteer Opportunity Details:

New volunteer grocery assistants are needed for the Village Mercantile gift shop and grocery store at Oakwood Village East Retirement Community.

The grocery assistants are needed to volunteer once to a few times a week on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings if possible, otherwise Monday-Friday in the morning or afternoon. Volunteer grocery assistants will work with the Village Mercantile Grocery Store manager to organize grocery list and order/purchase grocery items, shop at area grocery store for items to be purchased and transport back to Village Mercantile, unpack, price and stock items. The grocery assistants would also fill in for the Grocery Manager whenever needed and are welcome to attend monthly Village Mercantile managers meetings when able.

This volunteer position is very important to ensure the ongoing operation of the Village Mercantile which is a valuable service for all of the residents and their families at Oakwood Village East.

Required application and interview with Oakwood Village Volunteer Services Coordinator for registration and screening purposes to be considered for placement. Orientation and training provided by Volunteer Services Coordinator and Village Mercantile volunteer management staff for new volunteer upon placement. Potential applicants need good organizational and social skills for fulfilling the responsibilities and work cooperatively with the grocery manager and other grocery assistants along with other Village Mercantile volunteers. Physical ability for moderate bending and lifting helpful. Retail background and experience beneficial.
