Academic tutor and/or youth mentor

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on July 17, 2009

It’s about helping youth reach their potential through providing support in academics and other areas of life.

Responsibilities include attending the after school programming to tutor students, helping create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for the LIGHT participants, and possibly facilitate academic enrichment activities/sessions.

Additional responsibilities for mentors may be being present at a majority of LIGHT program events as building relationship is critical for youth/mentor relationships. Mentors should be available to mentor a LIGHT student through academic accountability, intentionally building supportive relationship, and be a positive role model to the youth.

This volunteer position would require 3-10 hours per week, but the hours are flexible. We prefer that the volunteer can commit to an academic semester for tutors and 12 months for mentors.

The next step is to look over procedures and commitments with the LIGHT program coordinator and attend one of our regular orientation/trainings.

Contact Autumn at light@nehemiah.org if interested or for more information.
