Our health care system is broken. Too many Americans are just one major illness or injury away from financial ruin due to the skyrocketing costs of the current system, while CEOs post record profits Lifetime financial security, a cornerstone of the American dream, is in jeopardy. Just 1 out of 5 workers today have a traditional pension plan and people are finding it more and more difficult to save. Elected officials have been content to stall, argue, criticize and blame each other rather than work together to solve these problems. The gridlock needs to end now. Health and financial security are not Republican or Democratic issues, they are American issues. We have the right to expect that our elected officials address these critical issues. AARP is looking for individuals to encourage our elected officials to address these bedrock quality of life issues and to educate, energize and mobilize our communities around these important concerns. As an AARP Grassroots Advocate you will: • Enjoy being on the inside-track on important public policy. • Benefit from impacting policy decisions as they are happening. • Know that you truly are making a difference! AARP will provide you with the orientation, skills training and support to effectively and confidently call, write or visit policy makers, secure voter pledge cards, to participate in public policy hearings, forums and events, draft letters to the editor, identify local opportunities for education and outreach and much more. And all right in our local community.
