Ask an Expert Board Training Series

Topic: Weathering Through Tough Financial Times
Presenter: Maggie McCullough, McCullough Consulting
When: Tuesday, May 16, 2006 – 5:30-7:00 pm
Where: Anderson
United Way Center - 2059 Atwood Avenue, Madison WI
Registration Fee: $5.00

SESSION DESCRIPTION

Boards of nonprofit agencies and programs often spend a lot of time reviewing and discussing finances, but this activity can be ineffective when the board has not developed effective policies, strategies and clear roles for staff and board members in financial management.

The first 45 minutes of the program will address four areas related to tough financial times:

Loss of major funding source

Fundraising shortfalls

Economic downturn

Financial management issues

Participants will be given information on how to recognize potential problems and respond before they turn into disasters, how to build in safeguards to prevent problems from happening in the first place, and strategies for surviving and thriving in spite of unavoidable tough times.

The remaining 45 minutes will be an open discussion of questions from participants. Questions sent in with the registration will receive priority.
