The 19th annual Children Come First Conference needs you!
Volunteer to work with youth ages 6-18
November 9-11, 2008 at the Kalahari Waterpark in the Wisconsin Dells.
Volunteers receive meals and lodging (including water park admission).

Do you love children & young people? Are you patient, kind, and have a good sense of humor? Spend two days with some of the most amazing kids you'll ever meet! Youth track volunteers will help with special projects, play games, read books, and hang out with children from 8am-4:30pm on Monday 11/10 and 8am-2pm on Tuesday 11/11.

This conference is for parents, caregivers, and others who work with youth with a variety of emotional, mental and behavioral challenges. Youth attending the conference may have diagnoses which include autism, ADHD, depression/bi-polar disorder, AODA issues, and others. Others are siblings of identified youth.

This year's youth track is called "Is Anyone Listening"? Kids will have a chance to work with hip hop group, The Figureheads on songwriting and choreography; with author and artist Julie Tallard Johnson on power shields and journal-writing; and with artist and educator Nancy Daly creating Story Quilt squares. After lunch on Tuesday, the youth track will have a chance to present their creations to the rest of the group!

We'll also have a general "chill space" with books, games, art projects - including a quiet rest spot - and a large motor/games area.
Youth track volunteers will hang out with a small group of youth or be with kids who need one-on-one attention.

After the youth track ends each day, you're free to attend sessions, go to the waterpark or enjoy your time in the Dells!

A Background Check may be required.
We need some volunteers who are experienced working with youth with autism and other special needs.
This is NOT a requirement for all volunteers.
We will have a volunteer meeting at 7:30am on Monday 11/10.
There will be a meet & greet for volunteers and youth at 6:00pm on Sunday 11/09 (optional).
