Our mission is to eliminate poverty and substandard housing, by building affordable houses for low income families; houses are financed at no interest with a 20-year mortgage. Eligible families must have an income between $10,825 and $25,980 per year. They must be willing to partner with Habitat by working 300 hours of sweat-equity helping build other houses as well as their own. To qualify families must be living in poverty or substandard housing and be a resident of Etowah County for at least one year.

Description:
Gadsden-Etowah Habitat for Humanity raises the funds, selects the families, builds the houses, and holds the mortgages on the houses we build. Habitat is an all-volunteer organization. Thus, we need help in a number of areas including: Public Relations, Site Selection, Family Selection, Family Support, Church Relations, Resource Development, and Construction.

History:
Gadsden-Etowah HFH was established 1996 in Etowah County. We have constructed 26 homes for 26 families by the end of 2007. We are an ecumenical Christian ministry and welcome everyone to participate in this joyous work. We have no paid staff, but rely on the kindness and generosity of the community to help us raise funds, nurture families, and build houses. We hold Groundbreakings and Dedications for each new home. We seek support from businesses, churches, individuals, civic and other organizations.
