Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on March 2, 2009 |
We need volunteers who have loving, gentle dogs who would like to visit patients in nursing homes or assisted living homes. This can be done as often as you like - once a week, once a month, etc. It's always a treat to see how patients react to animals who come to visit them. It is a proven fact that animals help people, especially this vulnerable population who suffer from loneliness and isolation. Even the shortest visit from a dog they can pet and love on gives them so much! Most area nursing homes or assisted living homes do not require animals to be certified to visit, but we do have contact information for the nearest therapy dog certification programs if you aren't quite sure your dog would be good at this activity. You must provide your own transportation also.
