The Maine Sea Coast Mission provides spiritual, health and youth development programs in coastal and island communities from mid-coast to Downeast Maine. Rooted in a history of non-denominational service, the Mission offers hope, encouragement, and help to strengthen individuals, families and communities.

Description:
The Mission's Downeast Campus is located in Cherryfield Maine and is home to programs that provide educational opportunities, support, and critical services for adults, children and families in Washington County. Programs housed at the Downeast Campus include:

  • The EdGE afterschool program that works with 4th to 12th graders in School Administrative District (SAD) 37 and 4th to 8th graders in School Union 96.
  • The Mission Food Pantry
  • Fuel and clothing assistance programs
  • Housing Repair Program
  • Senior Companion program
  • Community Forest and Trail system
  • Weald Bethel Chapel

  • History:
    The Maine Sea Coast Mission (MSCM) has had a presence in Downeast Maine for over 100 years. It has provided and continues to provide a broad range of services to the residents of coastal communities in Washington and Hancock counties and the islands including food, fuel, housing repair, and clothing assistance, ministry and counseling, telemedicine aboard the Sunbeam, scholarships for higher education and an afterschool program, the EdGE. For over 40 years, the MSCM Downeast Campus, a 60 acre parcel in Cherryfield, has been the site of many programs designed to help our most needy neighbors meet the challenges of daily life.
