Help restore a historic railroad

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on July 7, 2009

Come and help us restore a historic two-foot narrow gauge railroad. There are plenty of opportunities for all ages and abilities. Learn railroad operations from the early 1900's on our steam locomotive hauled trains. Projects include basic maintenance; building track; machine work; carpentry; construction; care for our buildings, grounds, and right-of-way; office work; cooking and cleaning; and much more. We are an all-volunteer organization preserving this unique aspect of Maine's (and US) history. Check our web site and/discussion forum for updates on planned projects and activities.

Please stop in on any Saturday or Sunday and introduce yourself at the station. We'll be glad to have you and you'll be glad you came.

No special skills required, we will provide training and tools. There is much to do for anyone of any age and ability. (Young children will be the responsibility of their parents but are welcome to assist.)

Volunteers should bring work gloves, wear work boots (preferably steel-toed), and dress for dirty, outdoor work. (Some projects do not have these requirements, but you may want to have these items handy.)
