Volunteer Opportunity Details:

The WW&F has two track extension weekends every year, in spring and in the fall. The spring work weekend is the weekend of the last Saturday in April, and encompasses Friday through Sunday. The fall work weekend is the Friday through Monday ending in Columbus Day, in October.

The typical pattern is track is laid in the Fall (ties, rail, and spiking the two together), and the new track is ballasted and put into service the following Spring.

Work usually begins early in the morning, between 7 and 8 AM, although people arrive at all times throughout the day. The Museum supplies its volunteers with lunch and supper on these days. The work ends between 5 and 6 PM.

For 2009, the fall work weekend will be October 9 - 12. The spring work weekend will be April 23-25, 2010.

No special skills required, we will provide training and tools. There is much to do for anyone of any age and ability. (Young children will be the responsibility of their parents but are welcome to assist.)

Volunteers should bring work gloves, wear work boots (preferably steel-toed), and dress for dirty, outdoor work.
